Deck & 6th Floor Capitol Museum

The Observation Deck and Museum may be closed
due to inclement weather.
Seasonally from mid-April through December, visitors to the
Capitol may visit the outside observation deck, the 6th level museum
and the Rotunda viewing platform. The
outside observation deck is 92 feet above the ground. From the observation deck visitors may see a
panoramic view of the City of Madison, including the lakes, University campus
and the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Inside the 6th level museum,
visitors will see displays about the construction of the current Capitol, as
well as artifacts uncovered during construction. Guests may also get a close-up view of the
inner Capitol dome from the Rotunda viewing deck. Stairs are required to visit the observation
deck, museum and Rotunda viewing deck.
How to Access the 6th Level Museum and Viewing
Deck:
Take the West Hallway (North side) Elevator to
the 4th Floor.
Or
Take the North Hallway (West side) Elevator to
the 4th Floor.
Follow signs up two additional flights of stairs
to the Museum and viewing decks.
Access to the Museum and Observation Decks
does require walking up approximately 48 steps.
Closed the following holidays: Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving
Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas
Day and New Years Day.
